It's Not Therapy, But It's Therapeutic

Founded in 2023, MENtal MATTERs is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to changing the narrative around Black men’s mental health. We provide effective programs and services designed specifically for everyday men, tackling everyday problems.

We're not just talking about change; we're creating it, filling the gap where traditional services fall short, and empowering Black men to thrive without fear of stigma or judgment.

Our Signature Program -

Chop It Up!

Chop It Up is our signature program—created for Black men to have real talk, find real solutions, and build real brotherhood. They can connect through three flexible formats: in-person group sessions that offer face-to-face conversation in a safe, judgment-free environment; virtual sessions that bring the same energy and connection to wherever you are; and one-on-one sessions for private, personal conversations when you need it most.

In-Person Group Sessions

Join us in a safe, face-to-face setting where Black men gather to talk real life. Sessions are guided by a trained facilitator and built around open discussion, respect, and brotherhood.

Attend a Virtual Session

Tap in from anywhere via Zoom. These live, facilitator-led sessions offer the same open, supportive space — just online. Speak up or just listen. Either way, you're part of the circle.

Our Journaling Initiative -

Raw Reflections

At MENtal MATTERs, we know that life as a Black man comes with its own set of challenges—challenges that we often don’t get the chance to talk about or process. That’s why we’re introducing Raw Reflections, our written and audio journaling initiative designed to give Black men a new way to reflect and release.

Why We Must Normalize Mental Wellness for Black Men By Arias WebsterBerry

Why We Must Normalize Mental Wellness for Black Men

April 29, 20251 min read

I want to first acknowledge the powerful work MENtal MATTERs is doing to create spaces where Black men can prioritize their mental wellness without stigma.

Throughout my journey as an entrepreneur, mentor, and advocate, I've seen firsthand how often Black men are expected to carry the weight of the world without ever putting that burden down. "We are celebrated for our strength but rarely given grace to acknowledge our struggles." That silence can be suffocating—and it’s long past time to change the narrative.

We are celebrated for our strength but rarely given grace to acknowledge our struggles - MENtal MATTERs - Arias WebsterBerry Quote

Mental wellness is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. It’s as essential as physical health, financial stability, or any other marker of success. And conversations around mental health must be normalized in our communities, from our barbershops to our boardrooms to our homes.

That’s why programs like Chop It Up! are so critical. They aren’t formal therapy sessions; they’re judgment-free spaces where Black men can connect, reflect, and be heard. Spaces like these provide a pathway to healing that feels natural, authentic, and culturally rooted.

Tools like journaling—whether written or recorded—offer another outlet. They allow us to process emotions, set intentions, and build a deeper understanding of ourselves, without fear of judgment or misunderstanding.

Organizations like MENtal MATTERs are leading the charge by creating real, relatable pathways to mental wellness. They are breaking down the barriers that have kept too many Black men silent for too long. And they are reminding us all that mental health isn’t just about surviving—it’s about thriving.

If you’re reading this, know that seeking support is not a weakness—it’s one of the strongest moves you can make.

Your story matters. Your wellness matters. You matter.

"I’ve been through a lot, seen a lot. The Chop It Ups give me a space to let some of that weight off. I ain't gotta have all the answers — just show up, be real, and listen. I’m there just about every time."

"It was worth attending MENtal MATTERs. For me it was very much needed. Great news I can use! I'll be back for sure. Very powerful."

“ I took accountability for the choices I’ve made that’s gotten me at this place in my life. I'm thankful that I decided to take the steps to attend, because just with the first meeting it was showing I was in the right place, at the right time, with the right people to support and encourage me to continue taking steps!!!
